Before I tell you about our latest achievement master, I have to warn you: Puzzle Quest might ruin your life. That's not exactly right. Puzzle Quest WILL ruin your life.
The latest Xbox Live Arcade title is a dangerous mix of addictive puzzle game and RPG. It sneaks up on you, and refuses to let go, until it is 3 o'clock in the morning and you have to explain to your family why you spent most of the night battling Orcs and undead hordes. Pretend you don't like RPGs or puzzle games all you want. Puzzle Quest has your number, and when it calls, you better cancel all of your appointments.

Bizzaro Kevar, a North Carolinian by the real name of Kevin, is now the 2nd place achievement leader in Puzzle Quest. He is a member of the 360arcadians.net (http://360arcadians.net),a 360-centric community focused on "providing a fun environment foronline play". They offer tools to schedule online games and they encourage newcomers to stop by.
Are you a fan of puzzle games, role-playing games, or both?
I'm not much of a fan of puzzle games on their own. However, when adeveloper does something unique with the genre, like with Puzzle Questor Puzzle Pirates, I become hopelessly addicted. I think I like thepotential puzzle games have to be used as combat systems more thanpuzzle games themselves. If you've played Bioshock, you know when youhack a machine in that game you go to this screen where you play a pipepuzzle to determine your hacking success. Some people didn't like that, but I think it's interesting.
Are you playing Puzzle Quest as a puzzler, or are you getting involved in the storyline?
I'mdefinitely more involved in the roleplaying mechanics. I'm usually outtraining new mounts, capturing monsters for spell research, and takingon any mission I can find rather than strictly following the storyline.
Did you go out of your way to get the achievements, or did they just unfold through gameplay?
Ididn't really have to go out of my way to get any of the achievementsin Puzzle Quest, but I do like to explore the game pretty thoroughly. Anice thing about the game's achievements is that if there's a featureof the game you didn't know about, like forging items or researchingspells, they'll encourage you to discover it and use it.
Do you have any Puzzle Quest tips for other players?
Look at the spells your character learns in later levels and try toplan for those. I see a lot of people playing online and they justevenly distribute their skill points across everything, and whilethat's OK to do, a specialized character can be very, very powerful.
Do you usually pursue achievements? (I notice you have 100% on some of your games)
I've been a perfectionist ever since I picked up a game controller.Achievements are a way of rewarding what I've been doing for years, soI definitely go for all of them. I'm not done with a game until I haveall of the achievements.
Your gamer zone is listed as "Recreational" but your gamerscore is pretty high. Why do you think that is?
I'mnot much for online competition, but I do play a lot of games in myspare time, so I end up getting most of the achievements. Formultiplayer achievements, I usually get them with the community I playwith over at360arcadians.net (https://mail.microsoft.com/OWA/redir.aspx?C=b73f58cf915941d1a09659d943916308&URL=http%3a%2f%2f360arcadians.net)
What games have been your favorite on the 360 so far?
Viva Piņata is relaxing, Bioshockis one of the best games ever made, and Alien Hominid is from the bestindie developer out there right now.
Are there any games you are looking forward to?
MassEffect, Mass Effect, Mass Effect. I've been playing Bioware games forten years and Mass Effect is a large reason I got my 360. For XBLA, I'm looking forward to BattlestarGalactica and Castle Crashers.
