I'm just wondering if the HD-DVD player is worth getting? Canada just got the 5 free dvd deal and I was thinking of going for it but I can't help feeling like it's just not worth buying. I still am able to rent DVDs and I'm not sure that I sit close enough to my TV in order for HD to make that much of a difference.

quality wise they are fantastic..I loved mine, but in the long run I think Blu-ray is gonna win the format war ,thats why i sold mine and put money towards the PS3...so you may end up selling it,just bear that in mind

Blu-Ray is actually dropping in sales, HDDVD has rose a lot in sales and surpassed Blu Ray actually. HDDVD has the better exclusives imo.

Maybe in America, but in Europe its blue-ray territory.Even where I work(Virgin Megastores)have only been getting one box of HD dvds a month where as blu-ray gets 4 to 5 boxes a month...I cant even rent out a hd dvd at my local xtravision but they stock plenty of blu-rays!as for exclusives your probably right as im a matrix fan but other than that both sides have a terrible selection apart from a handful and both the matrix and transformers are timed exclusives...

Well Transformers you can't call a timed when they have studio locked format for it. It may be for a year or two, but that amount of time makes a bigger difference than if it were a two month difference whihc it isn't.

Maybe but seeing as transformers on HD-dvd doesn't even have hidef audio like dolby true hd or uncompressed PCM i really wouldn't think of buying it....
BTW ask Gebbie for proof he has it on HD-dvd if you dont believe me.;)
