Some people think that working behind the curtain with the Wizard of Oz ruins all the magic . Those people are fools, I say! I spent my lunch hour today at the Microsoft cafeteria. You know the place… where mythical millionaires count their stacks and stacks of money while eating only the finest gold dipped chocolate. As you can see from the photos, the cafeteria is actually no different from ones found in most big companies, except today dozens of staffers gathered around several computers to experience the magic of Gears of War for Windows and Crysis.
To be clear, a typical day at the caf involves a lot more teriyaki and pizza, and a lot less fragging and chainsaws. This was a special event. As a newb to the ways of Redmond, it was clear to see that there are lovers of games behind the curtain, and even when you hear the booming voice and know there’s a funny man pushing levers back there, it’s still fun to play games at lunch. Scarface taught us to “never get high on your own supply” but I guess it depends on what you’re selling.
You too can play Gears of War and Crysis at lunch in the next few weeks, but we can’t guarantee your boss will approve.
