Sony preparing for Halo 3 release in September

If there is one game that Xbox 360 gamers are waiting for since the launch of the console, it’s Halo 3. Microsoft has confirmed that the game would be launched this coming September 25.

Microsoft vice president Peter Moore spoke about Halo 3 at the announcement party: “‘Halo 3′ is much more than a video-game release; it’s the biggest entertainment event of the year.”

He added: “We intend to deliver a finale that will go down in entertainment history.”

The company has also given the gamers a taste of what is coming up by starting a multiplayer beta test of the game on Xbox Live. This beta testing is limited to few gamers though some of whom got the invite by purchasing a copy of “Crackdown”.

The beta testing would continue till June 10 this year.

Sony has now said that they are going to challenge this upcoming gaming title which can potentially change the market scenario for both the company by launching some Playstation 3 exclusives.

The company also showed more than 30 upcoming gaming titles for their PS3 console which is struggling against both Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Xbox 360.

Some of these titles were “Ratchet & Clank Future,” “Heavenly Sword” and “Lair” along with the war game “SOCOM Confrontation” and the bizarre “Pain”.

I don't think Sony can make a game that can conquer the fan following Halo has. Those games look good, but I don't think those are enough to pull fans from Halo. We all know if Sony can't show that they did well in the fall then I think the higher ups are going to pull the plug on the PS3 they can't take another year of losses.

Their biggie is probably Killzone 2, but who knows what that game will look like. I know it's not going to look anything like the fake E3 trailer.

Killzone 1 was a shall we say. CRAPPY GAME! Killzone 2 wont help much. The game that could compete if you can call it that is "Socom Confrontation". Socom has 2 titles that are still in the top 6 on Gamebattles. If this game wasn't a rushed, canned, generic, pos like everything they have launched to date, it would really help Sony with the hardcore element that is responsible for the REPUTATION of the system.
I agree that Sony has alot of good games in the works but Halo is not a game. Its a culture. I know atleast 10 people that are only gonna buy a 360 when it Halo 3 comes out. Halo 3 is poised to break $1,000,000,000 by christmas. It will do half of that in the first 24 hours. (Halo 2 did $125 million on launch day) So I ask how do you compete against that. Answer take a valium get a glass of wine go to the beach and go back to work in January.

Final Fantasy XIII can compete

FFXIII Has seen a lot of backdraw within the media about being released on the Xbox 360. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but I'm sure some of you have heard the loose-talk on the subject. As for MGS4 or Killzone, last I checked they aren't coming out anytime around September. And if one of them were, it would be MGS4. Killzone is still a ways out, and by no means lookings anything like the E3 Trailer. I do not see MGS4 beating out Halo 3 though. Not by a long shot. Part of the reasoning behind this is, it's lack of a multiplayer. Halo as a franchise and as a single game has always lived long after it's single player campaign, because of it's captivating and extremely fun multiplayer aspects. The next best thing from Sony is Killzone, but when? And even then, are they really going to deliver with Killzone 2? Therein lies a really big White area... Only Time Will Tell.

At this point, release dates cannot be taken seriously, even Halo 3's release date can be questionable. The game has not gone "gold" yet and therefore the release date is still possibly subject to change. Release dates are a big deal to developers. When a game comes out has more behind it than just pissing off the public. Developers try to be strategic to some degree (sometimes in error), to release a game in a period where sales could be strongest. Sony will deffinetly try to find a way to counter-act microsoft in the month of Halo 3's release. How, no one is really sure. But releasing several games in that month is not going to stall Halo 3. That leaves consumers trying to decide which game to buy over the next, and as a lot of us know - most gamers do not have deep pockets. They can only truly afford 1 or 2 titles a month, some of us more. Releasing several games will just spread out that revenue and it would do literally nothing. Sony needs to packup their greatest, most highly-anticipated title, figure out a release date that will compete directly with Halo 3's and push the title in that time-frame. Then they need to sit back and pray. And pray they had better, because statistically and community wise, Halo 3 is going to be nearly impossible to defeat.

And now I shall end my rant on the topic.

**Note - Some of my knowledge may be dated, especially concerning Killzone and MGS4.**
