the main change will be templating and the joomla Content Management on the frontpage that will go to version 1.5 (currently 1.0.14) which is a big move on database level

on the gaming sessions (both regular and community) id think that a RSVP type feature would be good.. as to the members click an "I'm coming" type box and under the event it lists the registered members..
