When I was talking to Microsoft yesterday about my "unreadable disc error", they gave me a few steps to try, & as such, I felt it at least prudent to pass those along to you guys in the event hat this happens to you...
NOTE: The basic steps are in no particular order
Basic Steps
Turn off unit with disc in & reboot with "Play game" as the default start-up preference.
Remove HD & try to boot disc.
Boot w/o disc in & insert after start up.
Create a new gamer profile on the guide. This is NOT a gamertag. Under the "games" blade, there is the "create a profile" option. Use this route.
Perform a "hard reset" (unplug from power inserter for approx 1 minute & reconnect and power on.
Try other discs and/or games.
Clean disc.
If the aforementioned steps do not fix the "disc unreadable display message", clearing the cache(s) might work. There are two steps for clearing the cache, listed below.
Clear the system cache
Reset Xbox (if using wireless controllers, use controller to turn back on).
When the Xbox logo pops up and that noise appears, IMMEDIATLEY press and hold the Y button the right trigger simultaneously.
If this is done correctly, the system will reset itself again.
NOTE: All settings will be at the factory default upon start-up
The second option/step would be to clear the memory cache.
Clear the memory cache
Move cursor to "system" blade.
Select "memory" and press "A".
Highlight the memory source, IE HD, and press "A".
Press "Y" for "Device Options".
In the "device options" menu, press the following button sequence: X → X → LB → RB → X → X.
select "Yes"
As always, call Microsoft for official troubleshooting and diagnosis, but these are the steps that I was instructed to perform while on the phone with them last night.
