Xbox update screwed my xbox live.

After the update on monday 21st april my xbox has been messed up. I can sign into live... well thats what it says. when i sign in it comes up on my dashboard "connect to xbox live". Despite the fact that at the bottom of the screen it comes up "signed into xbox live". I then go on a game and i can stay on live and veiw my friends etc, but when i try to go on multiplayer it signs me out and says i don't have an active xbox live connection. I've checked if i'm connected through testing my connection on my network settings and everythings o.k. I've rung xbox and tried EVERYTHING. If anybody has any suggestions please can i hear them.:confused:

I'm actually under the impression that their "updating" was to connect more servers to the XBL infrastructure, for said Tuesday release.. so we don't have a repeat of Christmas.. but apparently they crossed a wire or two..
