TOKYO, July 6 (Reuters) - Sony Corp. (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) has no plans to cut the price of its PlayStation3 (PS3) at present to pep up demand and counter surging sales of Nintendo's (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) rival game console Wii, Sony's president said on Friday.
"At present we have no plans," to cut the PS3 price, Ryoji Chubachi told Reuters in an interview.

One could speculate however when they say 'not at present' that it COULD be soon or sometime.
I guess E3 will be the best place to hear it if its officially going to be reduced.
The thing is its over £400 in the UK for a PS3 making it around $800 US so whilst UK and also Australia is paying the higher price Japan can sit comfortably with cheap prices as they are making the difference back from us and Australia and then they can afford to take off $100 for the USA but I bet you any money the price stays the same in EUROPE and Australia.
I got a PS3 and to be honest if you work out what it has the price can easily be justified.
But for gaming thats a different story.

I have one too and yeah in holland here close to the UK its 600 in euro's still a lot and i think a little more then in the U.S.A. i dont keep up with the rises or falls of the Euro and the Dollar anymore.
And yess the price can easily be justified i think even for gaming if you got it and knew things would be slow untill september.
Its allways how it is and i expected that i have no problem waiting seeing what we get in the fall.
Prices around here allways seem to drop a little later but eventually they will.

I personally think the PS3 will start picking up next year and with a price reduction, I am sure the PS2 when it came out was £399.99 or was it £299.99?
