hey.. is there a way to hook a ethernet cable into one computer, somehow hook the first computer upto another, and be online on both pc's without too much of a headache?

You will need a router get a Netgear, depending on your internet service if its ADSL or Cable you need the appropriate router to all the PC's to all be connected at the same time to the internet.

Yeah I told him that you can't share the same ip address, and said to just use a router.

Yeah the net gear hub works well. We hooked up 4 Xboxes in one house using the net gear hub. We all had a decent connection to Xbox live while all were playing halo 2. We had that set up for almost a year and a half. It was a blast!

There is a way using Internet Connection sharing (just google it)
A few remarks though:
If do it using a standard HUB you may run into trouble as a lot of providers detect the number of MAC addresses or assign it to just 1.
Best way is a router behind the cable or adsl modem. Most of these (even cheap ones) have a build in firewall so you're protected better against worms and other nasty stuff.
