Yea as some of you guys know, im in school to make video games.. namely the art, levels, characters, animation, etc.. but yea.. Game Art & Design is the 'official' major.

On point, I have some assignment due Sunday, and I Figured that maybe you'd like to contribute haha

here goes :

Player Motivation

Understanding why players are motivated to play games is an important yet often overlooked step in determining what types of games might attract certain players. In this assignment, you will examine the reasons players are motivated to play games; create a new motivation; and explore your own motivations for playing. Please use the following questions to guide you in the completion of this assignment. Be sure to address each question.

What motivates people to play games? Discuss three different motivational factors and examples of games that address these factors. Motivations such as exercise (exemplified in the popularity of physical movement and rhythm games such as Dance Dance Revolution ) took game developers by surprise, and they might lead to a new series of games that address this player motivation.

Come up with a new motivation that game developers may have overlooked. Discuss what types of new games might address this player motivation?

Why do you play games? What elements in your favorite games make you want to continue playing? If you were to test one of your favorite games for the “fun factor,” why would it pass the test?

Player Markets

During this week's reading, you learned about player geographics, demographics and psychographics. For the second part of this assignment, create an idea for an original game and discuss how it addresses the following market-related elements. Please use the following questions to guide you in the completion of this assignment. Be sure to address each question.

Geographics - If your game was marketed in South Korea , how would it do? Discuss the specific trends that have developed in South Korea and the driving factors behind these trends. How do the US and South Korean markets differ? What would you change about your game idea to make it more appropriate for the South Korean market, and why?

Demographics – Is your game idea more appropriate for Silents, Boomers, Gen Xers or Millennials? How would you change your game so that it's more appropriate for a different generation? (How did you do on the Millennial Trends Quiz?)

Psychographics – Discuss your game idea in terms of attitudes, values and lifestyles. What sort of “belief system” does your idea incorporate? If you were to modify the game so that it incorporated your own personal
psychographics, what features would you focus on?

Submit one document (minimum two pages) to the Dropbox for Week 2: Assignments. Please be sure to separate the two topics within your document by creating a heading for each topic. For example, bold and center Player Markets in the paper before addressing that subject.

Due: Sunday by Midnight, MST

I play games online because of the since of community when you are playing with other people. If a game has a good story I will most likely play it, but the game also has to be fun. Advent Rising had a great story, but the graphics kinda slumped. The game has a very good story. That's why I like the Kotor games and Halo. Story is very important and the controls can't be horrible.

I play video games for a number of reasons. A. I like to play games if i'm good at them, if i'm not good at a game then I have no interest in it. B. If the story is good then it's always good to play. C. I love xbox live. I don't think i would have as much playing if it weren't for xbox live. I've made so many good friends over xbox live. And my final reason that I love to play video games is because of the respect that I get from it. Alot of guys are shocked when they find out i'm a girl and see how good I am at Gears of War. I get alot of credit and respect from the guys and that makes me feel good. That's prolly my number one favorite reason for playing.
