Ea to 2k It's On Like Donkey Kong

EA's CEO John Riccitiell has been kept awake at night when thinking about competitor 2k Sports and their success with All-Pro Football 2k8. Here's what he had to say:

When you've got a competitor like Take-Two on the sports side, and they launch a football title using some of the industry legends, you want to make sure that ends up being a blip and is not repeatable, because we like to defend our franchises aggressively.
And then he totally didn't add:
We're between egging their house and signing an exclusive NFL contract that lasts forever. Go to EA.com to vote for what you want to see.
I sincerely enjoy when companies are forthright about their competition. There's nothing more pitiful than pretending that guy standing in the room, scowling in your direction is some anonymous stranger, whose wife you didn't sleep with.

This is going to heat up, I'm sure the NFL won't let EA keep the stuff to its self, I'm sure in time we will see a NFL2k return.

Oh dear God I hope so. I can't stand EA just like any other monopolizing company. Fear of competition is what drove them to aquire the rights to the NFL in the first place. They need a competitor otherwise their games will not only have nothing to compare themselvs to other than their own outdated games, but their franchise will grow steadily stagnant. They don't need to innovate because they are the only NFL game in town and they know we have to buy their game if we want real teams and players. I still grind my teeth when I remember EA boasting "rendered grass" will be in the game. Uh......yeah. My camera view is set so I can see all my players at once so "rendered grass" is not going to be noticable from way up here. Unless there would be a need for a "shoelace cam" your resources should be put to better use in other areas EA. I just wish that these companies spend more time on their games rather than spewing them out once a year. Seriously, downloadable content would be nice if they just gave us some roster updates over the following season. That way we get a new football game every 2 years instead. That way also, the "innovations" in last years game aren't dropped so quickly to make room for something different so they can say they are still "innovative". I really hope the NFL takes note of this and doesnt sign another exclusivity contract with EA. Or better still, opts out of the current one.

Yeah the quality of Madden games has gone down far since they lost all their competition.
