From August 10 - 12, I attended the Horrorfind convention down in Baltimore, Maryland. Part of the greatness that is this convention is the costume contest. The judges this year consisted of much of the cast of Rob Zombie's new Halloween movie (Scout Taylor-Compton, Kristina Klebe, Dee Wallace Stone, Ken Foree, Udo Kier, Lew Temple) as well as Doug Bradley (Pin Head from Hellraiser) and horror author Jack Ketchum.

There were several entries and some interesting commentary by Udo Kier but I can't divulge. Maybe someone has uploaded some of his slightly intoxicated rant on youtube. AHEM.

There were zombies, there were monsters, there were ladies of the night....But most importantly, there was - Marcus Fenix?

I was so busy with my camera stuck to my face that I didn't hear them call him up but when he got up on stage, I couldn't believe it. Enter Fran Forsythe - Let me tell you something - this guy did an absolutely incredible job with his costume. Not only did he have the outfit down but he had created a chainsaw gun that actually worked! Kristina Klebe found particular joy in checking that out and I was determined to find this guy after the contest to ask him about it.

It was a shame that he didn't win a prize but the horror crowd is a fickle bunch. If you don't have skin falling off of your face or thick, carpet hair stuck to your body, you will be denied love and affection. Oh well. He was a hit with me and that's the most important thing in the whole, wide world. (Ok, maybe not but still, he deserves some recognition!)

Later, my friends found him and pulled him over for a chat. Unfortunately, he was out of costume but we still talked a little about how he made the gun. As I remember, it consisted of steel, motors, chains and other mechanical stuff that I knew about when I was 10 but have forgotten.

There was also a Silent Hill nurse (http://www.flickr.com/photos/dirtydiva/1106069092/in/set-72157601417891169/) in the contest but once she broke into some strange tap dancing routine, I lost interest and wished for Pyramid Head to come and do his thing with her.

If you're interested, you can see all the photos from the contest on my flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/dirtydiva/sets/72157601417891169/) page.http://gamerscoreblog.com/aggbug.aspx?PostID=552725
