There are a bunch of 360 games I'd like to pick up but money is definitely an issue for me, so.. What is a good, reliable, affordable site for getting used games online? Has anyone had good or bad luck with any particular ones? I'm tired of waiting for a CoD4 price drop and have no idea when I'll be able to play GTA4 so any advice on this topic would be appreciated.

Right then. I'm new here, and still getting my bearings for the site. Had an idea, or at least some thoughts that I thought I would share.

I've had my 360 since Christmas of 2007, and have been on Live since then as well. I have an original Xbox that's been with me about a month or so after launch, and was on Live then as well. Due to unfortunate circumstances involving outsourcing I had to let Live go from 2005 through the end of 2007 (also the reason for getting my 360 so late in the game).

Within one month of getting the 360 I've acquired around 15 games or so. Too many games in such a short time span, in my opinion.

So with that out of the way, let's get to the reason of this post. It's all about War. Gears Of War to be precise.

I popped it in before the end of last year just to get a quick look at it (Oblivion was the game I was really wanting to play), and played not even long enough to escape the prison.

Tonight I decided to give it another shot. I looked through all the options, and tweaked as I liked. Then I dove in.

Yes, I started the game on Casual because I know I'm not the world's best FPS player. In the past I got to know Halo 2 and Rainbow Six 3 pretty well, and worked to a point where I wasn't getting my butt handed to me all the time.

Gears Of War, though, felt... different. It certainly looked different. But the instinctual run and gun, double-stick movement was tossed out the window right off the bat. My first encounter with hostiles, and I bit it.

No problem. Restart from the checkpoint and learn from what just happened. I made it a little further, struggling to wrap my head around the cover controls. Getting into cover was easy enough, but when trying to leave cover, and read the screen at the bottom showing you what your options were... it became confusing.

A half hour later, and things are moving a bit better. I was blind firing every now and then, but more often than not, I was sticking my head up to aim and shoot. I had yet to revive any of my teammates (apparently, they are able to help themselves when their leader proves himself incompetent.)

So, things are moving along. I have yet to get a clear view of what the critters look like that I'm shooting at. I'm not entirely sure why that is. I mean, a Grunt is a Grunt, and an Elite is an Elite, and you could tell what they were within the first few minutes of playing Halo. However, with these 'grubs' and other nasties, I can't really tell what the heck they are. Throw in the fact that one of my teammates is wearing a full face helmet that, at first glance, is similar to the profile of a grub... Well, I'm still not sure if friendly fire is an issue or not.

Now I've made my way to the area after you commandeer the turret, and you're still looking for Alpha Squad. The current area has what looks to be a non-working fountain in it that everyone is using as a base of sorts. The enemies are coming out of emergence holes all over the place and that's one of your goals at this point. Seal the emergence holes.

This is where I'm having a hard time grasping things. I understand (for the most part) the use of the grenade. For the life of me, I have yet to actually identify what an emergence hole looks like. I don't know what I'm aiming for.

Yes, I've used the 'Y' button to look at the hot spots, but it's no good. There's too much debris blocking where I'm at and where the hole is to see exactly where to aim.

So I simply lob in the general direction and hope that I'm close (since other than horseshoes, it's the only time that it counts). Again, no good. I think that I sealed one hole out of five restarts. I know where at least one grenade spawn point is, so that's really not an issue. There seems to be no firm assurance when you've sealed a hole. That makes things even more frustrating.

Now, I understand that this is a game about war. War is hell. People screaming, explosions, bullets whizzing by. Not being able to fully understand what your comrades are telling you to do. That's all part of the fun.

But really, is it supposed to be this hard? Did the learning curve for FPS's jump skyward over the past year and I just missed it? Or is this a common experience with your first few times through with Gears Of War?

If anything, the one question I ask (and please feel free to comment however you like about whatever you wish), but what the heck do the emergence holes look like?

That's it for now. Hopefully, I'll post regularly about my experiences as a newbie (gods but I hate that word) in different games.

Maybe I should just stick to Hexic... Nah.

._._.

So its been out for a while now and i have finished it a few days ago so let me show you what i think about.

First off it really is the best GTA i played so far there are so many things done just right...
Too bad that also points out how some things could have gone a lot further.

Now the story is great the character Niko is definitely the star the moral choices he makes for the life he wants to live.
But for all his internal conflict sometimes he takes on jobs a little too easy for the money that kind of breaks character.

The graphics well they are nice for a game of this scale and so many details done right it makes you wonder where they found the time.
But the graphics arent the star, the biggest star is like many pointed out the city itself.

It feels alive its not just NPC's put there to be your victims anymore its people living their virtual lives.

Now gameplay well its GTA you go on missions some are very interesting cause they give you much room to work with and others are very scripted.

More interesting is the social aspect now thats nowhere near as good as i would want it to be..
I would have wanted more freedom in my activities with the other characters but i can also see why rockstar limited it the way they did.

But dont get me wrong its still very interesting you do get to do a lot of things with your friends....i just wanted it to be more.

Now when it comes to multiplayer you can definitely have a lot of fun with the right people even free play can be a great experience.

GTA 4 is a great game definitely worth purchasing i give it a 9/10.

A little blog entry based on a post made in the forums.

There are several option to see activity on games.

If you have friends registered here on the site you can use the various leaderboards (per game) or the gamedirectory to see who owns it and who actually is playing it.

http://www.xboxlivenation.com/community/gamerboard.php
http://www.xboxlivenation.com/community/gamedir.php

You can also use the XLN tracer application to trace real time up to 15 gamers (without the mandatory registration for the gamers). http://www.xboxlivenation.com/community/gamertrace.php

Another option is create your own little twitter community and have your friends register and so you get all that information dumped on your twitter.com page.

Cool thing there is that it's integrated with the Live Messenger Bot and you can directly ask the bot about the activity of that group
http://www.xboxlivenation.com/community/livebot.php

A good starting point for live statistics adventures in the "live portal" you'll find all over the site.

A last thing you can do is create your own social group of likeminded gamers and discuss things.

You can even create a calendar of games you're about to play. http://www.xboxlivenation.com/community/calendar.php.

So you see there's a ton of things to do on XLN.

I've been slowly picking up more points. Petturi has disappeared for most of the last week, which is fine by me (as long as he's not ninja-scoring points offline and not updating the total so I can't see how far behind I'm falling...) I still haven't been able to play much. Too many papers to finish!!!

Many of Contra's achievements are now out of the way, and I made some progress in Hexic HD and Puzzle Quest, earning me to following achievements:

God Raiser 20G
Rebuild Sartek

Flower Child 15G
Starflower

Star Gazer 5G
Bonus-Star Cluster

Cluster Buster 5G
25 Total Combos

So, it was a 45G day. Not fantastic, but the most progress I can expect with what little free time I have. The defecit has fallen to 1230. I should be getting Dirt in the mail from Gamefly today, and my understanding is that that game is fun and easy points.

I'm stuck with just 1 achievement left to get in both Oblivion and Warriors Orochi, and have little desire at present to play either. I think I'll just suck it up and finish them off next week for the sake of total completionism...

The race to 40k continues!

I recently purchased GTA4 (stood outside of GameStop till midnight on Monday night Tuesday morning for the release) and I've always been a huge fan of the GTA series, but GTA4 isn't all that it's been cracked up to be IMO. i find the multi player experience to be lacking due to a couple of reasons:

Laggy (and I am on a 20Mb/s Down 2Mb/s Up connection = FAST)

Crashes

Locks Players out of the game from time to time (stuck on "loading...")

Pedestrian screwups (once I saw a ped repeating it self over and over... he was running but he only got a few feet before he reset back to where he started running from, so I shot him, and he just started to run a different direction, but again, only got a few feet before it would reset back to where is started running from... VERY WEIRD)

Overall, Just not as fun as Single Player Experience (might have something to do with the issues)

As for the single player flaws:

Can't read cellphone unless 720p or 1080p resolution (and unfortunately my old skewl 47inch WideScreen Projection HDTV doesn't support either of thous rez's), heck the Text Size option on the cellphone isn't even available for 480p rez

IMO this is a MAJOR flaw, since the cellphone is a pivotal part of the game, and not everyone can afford a NEW LCD screen that supports 1080p let alone 720p.

Also at 1080i the cellphone looks much better (compared to 480p), but the problem with 1080i is that the sides (left and right) of the screen are cut off and you can't read your HUD display for # of bullets available etc...

Crashes (from time to time the system just locks up, usually when driving fast)

General Bug (Both Multiplayer and Single Player Modes)

Disk Read Errors - I keep getting disk read errors during crucial parts of the game :(

Thats it from me for now ;)
p.s. Here is a petition thread going on, on the Xbox.com forums: TAKE TWO/ ROCKSTAR WE NEED A PATCH!!!

A friendship is a mutual, two-way relationship between two users. It is initiated by one user and accepted by the other.

A contact is a one-way friendship. This could be where the other person does not accept the friendship, a friendship request is pending, or you do not wish to be friends at this time but want to show them as a contact only.

Where is list of friends and contacts displayed?

Your friends and contacts are displayed on the 'Contacts and Friends' page in your User CP. Your friends are also displayed in your profile page.

How can I request a friend, accept a friend or break a friendship?

There are two ways to request a friendship with someone.

The easiest way is to view the profile page of the person you want to become friends with and click the 'Befriend' link.

The other way is to add the person to your contacts first. Then from your 'Contacts and Friends' page ask to be their friend by checking the box next to their name labelled 'Friend'. Next, save the page.

If you know the username of the person you want to be friends with you can send a friend request using the box provided and clicking 'Add Friend'.

To accept a friend, go to your 'Contacts and Friends' page. At the bottom of the page you will see a list of pending requests. Check the box for the requests you wish to accept then check the 'Accept' button and save the changes. If you do not wish to be friends then select 'Reject' instead.

Breaking a friendship can be done in three ways.

From your 'Contacts and Friends' page, uncheck the box for friend for the particular person and save the changes. If you no longer wish them to be a contact either, uncheck both boxes for that person.
In your 'Profile Page', click 'Friends' and then click 'Break Friendship' next to the user's name.
In the other person's profile, click 'Friends' then find your username and click 'Break Friendship'.

A social group is a group of people usually with a particular interest or something else in common. It provides a way of communicating between members as well as sharing photos or other images.

You can get to the list through 'Group Memberships' section on your public profile.

The Social Groups list page displays all groups that have been created. You can list the groups by the number of members, messages or pictures, the group name, when the group was created or by the date of the most recent message posted. You can use the controls provided to search for a group.

How do I join a group?

To join a group, click the group title then click 'Join Group'. When you have joined a group, its name will be shown in your public profile. You must be a logged-in, registered member to join groups.

Can I create my own social group?

As a registered member, you can create your own social group (providing the administrator allows this). Go to the groups page and click 'Create A New Group'. Complete the title and description for your group then select the type. There are three types of groups:

Public - open to everyone. There is no restriction on who can join or who can post messages to it
Invite Only - require an invitation to be sent to join them. Invitations can only be sent by the group creator or forum moderators and administrators. Invitations are sent by clicking 'Pending & Invited Members' at the bottom of the page for that individual group
Moderated - open to everyone to join but messages need to be moderated before they will appear. They are moderated by the group creator and the site moderators and administrators

So, I'm starting a blog about my achievement whoring adventures, general gaming missions, and the state of any Achievement races I happen to be...

So, I'm starting a blog about my achievement whoring adventures, general gaming missions, and the state of any Achievement races I happen to be undergoing. It's going to take a few weeks to get this into full swing, because I'm a few weeks from the end of a semester of college and up to my eyeballs in papers and finals. Not too much time for gaming.

Plus, GTA4 is the unbelievable. I'm addicted, and that's one game I'm not playing for the achievements. My score hasn't gone up that much lately...

I'll start by bringing this blog immediatly up to speed on the state of my race to 40K against Petturi. The race started 04/15/08, so it's been a little over half a month. We both were in the 24K range to start. I had a meager 40pt. starting advantage... I'm now about 1,300 behind.

The guy is fast, I'll give him that. I banged out the Kong 1,000, and despite that, found myself losing to a flood of points. He got Superman, Spiderman FoF, and Bee Movie 1000s within a week (I think those are easy, but still). I had to whore out the Avatar 1000 (jesus that made me feel dirty) to keep pace.

Since then, I've squeezed some points from Lost Cities, GTA4, and NBA Ballers, among others. We seem to have reached a post GTA4 cease fire for a while, as that game is the only thing we're playing. That cease fire is fine with me. My school obligations and the need to have a social life keep my score from going anywhere. Once summer vacation starts, and I lose about 95% of my social life (I work A LOT, and pretty much just game after work; no friends locally), the points should be coming in again. I'm not worried about the current defecit.
I'll have the lead back by the end of May, barring any more 3,000+ point weeks from him.

STATISTICS (vs. Petturi)
race on since 04/15/08
Lead Changes: 5
My Greatest single day increase: 1030
Current leader: Petturi by 1345

Okay folks,

Most who I talk to know I'm in art school (albeit the e-version). And i was just randomly pissed off at the fact that most of my homework relates to READING ABOUT DRAWING. I mean c'mon now.

I do not exaggerate this fact, I had to read 2 chapters on my "character design" book and one chapter in my "advanced drawing and perspective for games" book. I do not attempt to belittle these subjects, as my desired profession upon completion of this degree would be to work in the video game or entertainment industry in some fashion, but i think that the practices of drawing as opposed to the the theories and the do-as-i-say method is outdated especially when learning over the internet.

Hopefully next term when I start the 3D courses I'll be learning by doing, not by reading

Hey everyone, my name is Hans Hoogwerf and I am known as qG ThaLiX. I’d like to talk about my gaming history. I started playing videogames around the age of 6, enjoying my many hours of Doom, Redneck Rampage or Carmageddon on the PC. Way too violent games for that age, but hey, I loved them, and so my parents couldn’t stop me from playing them. A little while later a friend of IntenZz got a Nintendo 64, but he didn’t like it. We bought it from him for a small prize. That’s when I met The Legend of Zelda, which is still one of my favorite games ever. I also remember playing a LOT of Super Smash Brothers. It was amazing to play with friends and we had a lot of fun with it, but eventually I was getting bored with it. That’s when I decided to rent a Playstation 2 which was the next level of gaming for me. I really enjoyed it and was planning on buying it when my dad came in and told me about a console developed by Microsoft, the Xbox. He said that it had better graphics and that it was a really good console, so I decided to buy the Xbox. We had a lot of fun with Dead or Alive 3, but when I started playing Halo I totally forgot Dead or Alive. I enjoyed playing it on System Link with friends. I also bought the Gamecube, because I wanted to play Super Smash Brothers Melee, i played this so many times with my friends, every round was different and that made it fun, there were so many surprises. After a while the sequel of Halo got out and that’s when I heard of Xbox Connect. With it, you could play with everyone from around the world without paying. I didn’t have a credit card back then, so I couldn’t play on the Xbox’ online service, Xbox Live.

When the Xbox 360 arrived in the stores it was only natural that I had to get it. I pre-ordered it, but there were too few, so I had to look for it. I looked on the internet and bought one from someone living nearby. It was the Core edition, which didn’t include a Hard Disc. It was only a few days later when I was called with the words that I could pick up my Premium edition. This made me the owner of 2 360’s, which was pretty useless for 1 guy. Fortunately there were SunriZe and the non-gamer IntenZz who decided to give it a go and also the option to get on Live with a prepaid card. Me and IntenZz bought Call of Duty 2 and played a lot with a friend of IntenZz called EmergedFlame. We decided to create a clan, called Dutch Legion. After a while we found another great guy to play with called Justice which led to the completion of a team. My other brother got to play Perfect Dark Zero for our clan, and we also got a good team on that game. Things changed and people left or were kicked; we also changed the clanname to eVolution. We continued to play CoD2, but without a solid 4th guy, because EmergedFlame stopped playing Call of Duty 2. We also met this clan called aVIP on CoD2, who became our rivals. We haven’t played a match, because of the different gametypes we both play, but it was obvious that aVIP and eVo were the top of the Netherlands.

I entered a national tournament hosted by Xtoernooien and became 1st out of 60 players or so, I was really happy and decided to enter their next tournament as well. This was a lot harder, because it was international, so I knew that some badass players would enter. At the end I managed to get the 4th place, with a Finnish guy coming in first. We now know that guy as qG Pena K I N G, a valuable player to our team. A little while after that I entered a tournament hosted by Gamez.nl and sponsored by Activision. Me and 11 other Dutch players won and we got to play Call of Duty 3 in Brussels, a month before the release. It was a really fun day.

When CoD2 was ending both eVo and aVIP broke up, 2 members of aVIP decided to create a new clan called AK47. Me and IntenZz joined an American clan called D2a for a while, but we knew we had to join AK47. So we did and I became site admin, while IntenZz was in the Call of Duty 3 team, I personally didn’t like CoD3 so I decided to stick to administrating until Call of Duty 4 would be launched. Due to our sponsors we later renamed AK47 to Quality Gaming and added more teams to our clan.

Currently I am playing Call of Duty 4 for iDentity Gaming and I will continue to play this game, until CoD4 will become inactive. I am now trying to get us in as many tournaments as possible and visit as many LANs as we can, we already won a Beta tournament, XL4 and the ARGaming Rock 'n Load LAN. I think our team has got a lot of potential to become one of the best on the game. iD has become a familly after meeting them in real life. I really think we can grow from just a simple clan to an amazing eSports community.

Ok guys, this was my gaming history and a little bit about what I think of iDentity. I will see you all online!

Cheers,

Hans 'iD ThaLiX' Hoogwerf

One thing I noticed is that its not too easy to get assualt ACES points. marksmanship is probably the easist, with CQB being second. If you want to get assault points easily, just fire up the CQB training map terrorist hunt, from the spawn, hit the wall to your right and go towards the opening. you'll see one tango, but there are plenty more. Just chuck a C4 and wait for 2 tangos to go near the wall closest to you, you'll get 3 pts per tango. you can do this about twice in the level at the same point the just get killed and do it again.

Alright you get 3 points for everytime you shoot a person on a rappel (3 points marksman) or blindfire (3 points for CQB). While you only get 1 point for marksman when you get a headshot.

I found a easy way to get 12 to 18 points for Marksman or CQB in 'terroist hunt' choose the map 'kill house', then go up the first stairs and take cover on the right corner and peak out. Terroists will start to climb down the rappel about 6 and if you're lucky 8-10 and of course one by one, shoot them while there climbing (marksman) or blindfire them (CQB). if you do the math you'll get at least 18 marksman or 18 CQB and thats easily done. After doing that get killed by running around like a maniac but dont commit suicide or else you'll lose 50 EXP.

Extreme Soldier 150G [X]

Complete Campaign on Extreme.

Things to keep in mind:

Enemies have more health do more damage and there are more of them so always watch your back. You will not have a VS suit for most boss battles you have to use the weapons you find in the missions as you go along try to keep an eye out for those rockets they will save your life in boss battle's in extreme.Your T-ENG decreases much faster id say around the speed as if you were in a PTX-40A(super mech, hardballer what ever you like to call it).Don't try shoot everything in sight. Everything that dies, breaks, explodes drops T-ENG which is your key to survival. But always watch your ammo. The hardest boss is the first boss so save your energy because the game will get easier toward the end. But i will say mission five boss will take its damn time to kill its a tough SoB

Also check this link out for videos for extreme http://www.dmbledore.com/LostPlanet/index.html

Master Pioneer 50G [X]

Found all of the target marks in every mission.

Not explained very well you need to get them all on every setting as well easy, normal, hard and extreme this is the hardest achievement in the game. if you get it you have boasting rights because you know your good.Just follow the links i gave you and you will be fine. (just remember if its out of reach you might need to got back to it with a rifle, plasma rifle or energy gun you find down the road)also the target markers save up to the check point you got to so if you die before a check point you need to do it all again

Right thats it for single player achievements now for multiplayer
same again ill put a red [X] next to the secret ones
Now there are two ways of getting these play the game and earn them like a true player or boost your choice i recommend you play it through you get all the online achievements by the time you hit lvl 50 anyway (if your good some might take more time like Elimination medals)

Ace Medal 30G

Collect 10 Ace Medals in Elimination matches online.
just win 10 match's the easiest way to do this is host small match's anywhere between 4-5 people (must be done in ranked match's)

Elimination Medal 30G

Collect 10 Elimination Medals in Team Elimination matches online.
Don't let the name fool you this needs to be done in team elimination just host a match 2 teams 10-15 Min's machine gun what ever stage you choose best ones would be pirate fortress, training facility or dilapidation and make sure on the winning team (must be done in ranked match's)

Conqueror Medal 30G

Collect 10 Conqueror Medals in Post Grab matches online.
Now theres two ways to win a post grab match by getting the most post or all of them by the time ends(if you get them all the match is over) or just kill the team with the most kills and post's will win (must be done in ranked match's)

Hunting Medal 30G

Collect 10 Hunting Medals in Fugitive matches online.
two ways to get this host and be the fugitive just kill, run and get post's till the point bar fill's the less people you host it with the easier it will be. the second way is to join a match look for one with 15 hunters if they know what they are doing they will make short work of the fugitive. win ten then the prize is yours (must be done in ranked match's)

Grand Slam 30G

Collect all four types of medals in matches online.
you will get this while working towards the other medals. you just need one of each type 1 elimination, 1 team elimination, 1 post grab and 1 fugitive (must be done in ranked match's)

Chain Killer 50G

Kill 10 opponents in a row without dying in online battle.
sounds simple doesn't it but it harder then you think best to do this in a team elimination game you will always have people to help you get the kills just try not to steal them all the time ^_- (can be done in ranked or player match's)

Head Hunter 50G

Head shot 50 enemies in online battle.
you will get this over time don't worry to much just use the rifle aim high and you will be fine (can be done in ranked or player match's)

Online Master 50G

Reach level 50 in online battle.
when playing a ranked match at the end of the match you get EXP based on how well you do. you need around 750,000 points to hit level 50
(must be done in ranked match's)

Online Century 50G [X]

Logged more than 100 online matches.
don't worry about this two much you will get this while trying to go for the other online achievements you don't need to win just finish the match

To check out your online stats go to the main menu and check out records to see how many of each medal you have how many headshots you have and how many match's you have played

special thanks go to Dmbledore for the Target maker guide and MattTheCommie for the Descriptions and images were obtained from Xbox C4.com and thanks to Beer Baron for the extreme mission video walkthroughs

Defeat the giant worm!
This is a simple achievement which is done in Mission 03. Here you must kill the giant worm that follows you throughout the plains of the level. There are 2 things that you can do to help defeat this thing.

1 - when he opens his mouth to do the wind breathing attack shoot some rockets down his throat.

2 - grab anything that shoots and unload on its orange pods.

The worm doesn't actually die, he respawns. So when the intense music stops playing and he disappears for about a minute, you have earned the achievement so leg it out of there before he comes back because when he does, he'll have full health.
